Players flock to Battlefront 2 to continue the Star Wars celebration following a number of well-timed crossovers and events.

Last month, we reported that Battlefront 2's playerbase skyrocketed by over 1000% on Steam. According to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, the jump in players was accompanied by a salvo of game sales that caused Battlefront 2 to break into the top 20 best-selling video games of May 2025.
May is a big month for Star Wars fans, with annual celebrations planned throughout. This year, Epic and Disney teamed up with a huge Fortnite Galactic Battle event, which undoubtedly primed players for more Star Wars multiplayer action. The Revenge of the Sith 20th anniversary film release also sparked interest, as the shooter spans multiple movies across the prequels and sequels.
In a recent interview with IGN, Piscatella explains the reasons for Battlefront 2's sharp uptick in sales:
"The player surge for Battlefront 2 started with Revenge of the Sith's 20th anniversary re-release back in early May, then really picked up with Andor. Players peaked in the week of May 25 and then started to fall back a bit. There was another bump in mid- to late- June as the game was put into various sales and things as well, but that's a story for two weeks from now."
The sales clearly show that there is player demand for Star Wars multiplayer shooters, and Battlefront has been particularly lucrative for Electronic Arts with over $3 billion made from the franchise as of 2021.
The odds of a new Battlefront are slim as Electronic Arts cancels projects and doubles down on sports games to avoid portfolio risk.
