Radeon 5870 Rumors Popping Up
While thumbing through the news this morning I found an interesting read on some 5870 (RV870) rumors that are showing up. Theo Valich (formerly of the Inquirer and TG Daily) took a look at these an injected some logic into the mad ramblings that abound.
He points out that the going claim that ATi will add 25% more shaders just to get a 50% performance boost flies in the face of the way ATi currently engineers their GPUs.
Theo also makes a bold claim that the RV870 will have a 256 bit memory interface and not the 512 bit one that most seem to think will show up.

SLI on X58 Express without NF200 chip - for $5 USD
Over the past few months, there has been plenty of speculation on whether or not SLI would be supported on Intel X58 Express motherboards.
At first it was believed that motherboard makers would need to add one or two nForce 200 chips to their boards, but that was not a good solution - too expensive, too hot and a PCB space-eater.

Did AMD mess up shaders on Radeon HD 4830 samples?
AMD may have made a fairly major mistake this week with the launch of its Radeon HD 4830 graphics card.
W1zzard over at techPowerUp! reckons that AMD may have sent out bad HD 4830 reference review samples to members of the press. The issue was discovered when shader counting support for the new HD 4830 was added to GPU-Z and partner cards showed a count of 640 stream processors (or shaders) and the reference sample from AMD which was sent to techPowerUp! and another site only had 560 shaders.

NVIDIA give into pressure, allow native SLI on X58
From what we have seen, heard and observed over the past few weeks or so and even much longer actually, it was clear one of two things was going to happen to NVIDIA's SLI technology when we came to a cross roads like it is at now.
We once heard from a certain NVIDIA employee two years ago who sits quite high up in the company after quite a few a lot of drinks at a certain Taipei hang-out that and we quote, "Intel will only get SLI on its chipsets in exchange for allowing us (NVIDIA) to make chipsets without any licensing fees". That chances of that happening were obviously really slim. That didn't happen, so...

NVIDIA SLI support to encourage Intel X58 loyalty?
A desire to play the field may be a costly exercise, on the part of motherboard manufacturers, pondering the implementation of SLI support into their, upcoming, Intel X58 powered solutions according to this report, from Fudzilla.

RV770 based Radeon HD 4870 X2 stripped naked
Many of us are in strong anticipation of AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 4870 X2 (RV770) dual-GPU graphics card, especially now that we've seen what the HD 4850 and 4870 is capable of.
It's been mentioned that the 4870 X2 is expected to arrive towards the end of Q3 this year. Apart from that, we've heard or seen very little about the RV770 monster thus far.
However, the folks at Chiphell have a nice treat for us early on; some nicely presented nude shots of the card, revealing some of its inner talents.

Inquirer posts GeForce GTX 280 benchmarks early
Charlie Demerjian over at the INQ also knows the pain of what it feels like for NVIDIA not to include you on a new product launch. It actually works out alright though as you get to post your scores early and have hundreds of thousands of readers come to your website.
Of course we know the same feeling too but during Computex we were suckered into signing an NVIDIA NDA, which means we have to play nice this time around or NVIDIA would quickly let its dogs out on us - even though we already have five different models in our hands - for the past week or so.
Charlie didn't sign an NDA and has been busy over the past while testing the GeForce GTX 280 against a factory overclocked GeForce 9800 GTX.
Go grab your early results over here. We love you Charlie and understand your decision to post early fully.
Our GT200 content will be online when the NDA expires in about two hours from now. Prepare yourself for it - we have three articles ready to go live!

Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 stripped naked
According to reports which have been posted online recently, Nvidia is set to launch its upcoming high-end GeForce GTX 280 (codenamed GT200) next month on June 18th just ahead of the launch of the ATI RV770 series of graphics cards from AMD.
PCPOP over in China managed to get a hold of a reference designed GTX 280 graphics card and strip it completely naked for public viewing.
From the pictures, it looks as if it will be roughly the same size as the current high-end GeForce 9800 GTX and you will need to hook up one 6-pin and one 8-pin power adapter to make it run at full speed.
