The HDMI Forum has just announced the release of the HDMI 2.2 standard, offering a massive 96Gbps of bandwidth and ready for the future of displays with up to 4K 480Hz and so much more.

The higher 96Gbps bandwidth and next-gen HDMI Fixed Rate Link technology which provides optimal audio and video for a wide range of device applications, providing users with the assurance that their displays support a native video format in the best way possible and delivering a seamless and reliable experience.
Chandlee Harrell, president of the HDMI Forum said: "The HDMI Forum is proud to release the new HDMI 2.2 Specification to enable higher performance capabilities and features for exciting and immersive new solutions and products. And the introduction of the new Ultra96 feature name will help consumers and end-users ensure their product's maximum bandwidth is supported".
The new HDMI 2.2 Ultra96 is a new feature name that manufacturers are encouraged to use to indicate to end users the performance capabilities that support a maximum 64Gbps, 80Gbps, or 96Gbps of bandwidth in compliance with the HDMI 2.2 specification. Products that are marketed with or display the Ultra96 feature name will require the Ultra96 HDMI cable that ensures the maximum bandwidth of HDMI 2.2 is properly supported.
The new Ultra96 HDMI cable supports up to 96Gbps of bandwidth and all HDMI 2.2 applications, compared to the Ultra High Speed HDMI cable which supports up to 48Gbps of bandwidth, representing a doubling in the bandwidth over the previous HDMI 2.1 specification.
The Ultra96 HDMI cable -- just like the Ultra High Speed HDMI cable -- is part of the HDMI Cable Certification Program that requires each model length to be tested and certified in order to display the Certification Label. Also included in the new specification is Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) that improves audio and video synchronization, especially for multi-hop system configurations involving an audio video receiver, or soundbar.
