TL;DR: Diablo 4 Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim launches July 1, introducing innovative spellcrafting with customizable Horadric Spells, revamped Nightmare Dungeons featuring new bosses and rewards, and unique class items. These updates enhance gameplay depth and endgame content, offering fresh challenges and powerful customization options.

Diablo 4 Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim begins on July 1, and as part of the new seasonal questline, you'll be able to craft and customize powerful spells to enhance your existing powers. Spellcrafting in Diablo 4 is accessed via an in-depth menu that will let you create new spells that can be improved and leveled up throughout your Season Journey.

Called Horadric Spells, these are created by combining three elements - a Catalyst, an Infusion, and an Arcana. The Catalyst is the base power of the spell, providing its form and function. For example, the 'Celestial Surge' Catalyst pulls in all surrounding enemies, triggering a torrent of stars that randomly strike enemies in the area.

Once you've got your Catalyst, apply an Infusion that modifies the type of elemental damage your spell deals. Finally, Arcanas add additional effects to the base power of your spell. For example, the Legendary 'Frigid Heart' Arcana adds a frozen explosion to the beginning and end of 'Celestial Surge.'

This is the first time we've seen spellcrafting in a Diablo game, and even though it's a time-limited feature exclusive to Season 9, it sounds like something fans will want to check out.

Season 9 isn't just about spellcrafting and the new Sins of the Horadrim questline; it also overhauls the game's Nightmare Dungeon endgame activity with updates and new features that will become a permanent fixture in Diablo 4 going forward. Escalating Nightmares is a brand-new endgame activity that not only chains together three Nightmare Dungeons that stack affixes as you work your way through them, but at the end, you'll need to face off against a brand-new boss - the Exalted version of Astaroth.

In addition, Nightmare Dungeons are getting new positive affixes to make them more rewarding and fun to play, including more chests, shrines, and even a Treasure Goblin invasion. Also, hidden inside Nightmare Dungeons, you'll now have the chance to discover Horadric Strongrooms, which are described as "potent micro-dungeons that hold powerful rewards and new fearsome mummified enemies." These events are time-based, so you'll need to be quick to obtain the 'Horadric Relics.'

Season 9 also introduces brand-new Unique items for each class, expanding their playstyles with new builds and options. Head here for a full breakdown of what's coming on July 1.
