Today SteelSeries announced the SteelSeries Shift gaming keyboard.

Razer is one of the best-known makers of gear for PC gamers on the market. The company has all manner of mice, keyboards, and other gear for gamers. Many gamers and typists really like the feel of mechanical keys on a keyboard, but that is a rare feature on keyboards today. Razer has offered up a new keyboard specifically for gamers that uses mechanical keys.

The new keyboard is called the BlackWidow. It has mechanical key architecture for fast actuation and a longer life. The keys for the keyboard are programmable and there are five keys that can have macros bound to them for gaming. The keyboard also has ten customizable software profiles with on-the-fly switching.

Other features include 1000Hz Ultrapolling providing a 1ms response time and the key matrix for the keyboard is optimized for gaming. A full set of media keys is also offered and the keyboard has a gaming mode to turn off the Windows key. The dimensions of the BlackWidow are 475mm x 171mm x 30mm and the keyboard will sell for $79.99, which is surprisingly cheap considering it is mechanical.

A long time ago, Logitech offered up what I think is the best keyboard ever made for general computer work - the Illuminated Keyboard. This wired keyboard is very thin and has backlit keys, which at the time it debuted was a feature only common to gaming keyboards. Today Logitech has unveiled a new keyboard called the Wireless illuminated Keyboard K800.

This keyboard lacks the super thin profile of the wired Illuminated Keyboard, but makes up for it to some extend by cutting the wires tying you down. The K800 uses the Logitech unified receiver to connect to the computer and that one receiver will work with compatible mice too. The keyboard has adjustable backlighting that can be dimmed or turned off.

The lighting also uses a proximity sensor that turns itself on and off when you had gets close to the keyboard or leaves the keyboard to conserve power. Logitech uses its PerfectStroke key system and the Incurve key tops for comfortable typing. The internal rechargeable battery can be charge with a mini USB cable while you are using the keyboard. You can pre-order the K800 now for $99.99.

We can be honest with each other and say that many of the wireless products on the market aren't that great, especially for gaming. I have tried to use a normal wireless mouse and keyboard to play games like COD and others before and ended up with ghosting that was bad enough I expected to see Casper pop up on screen. There are some wireless rodents on the market for gamers, but most of the wireless gear is still aimed at the general computer user.

Logitech has debuted a nice looking new wireless desktop for the general computer user called the Logitech Wireless Combo MK520. The wireless desktop includes a full-size wireless mouse and keyboard. That keyboard has all the one-touch media controls that you need to control your content and a full number pad as well.

The keyboard has keys that use the Logitech Incurve design to make it easier for your fingers to glide from one key to the other, making typing easier n adore comfortable. The full-size mouse is an ambidextrous design with a scroll wheel and soft rubber grips on the side. Logitech is mum on sensitivity, but you can expect in the 800 dpi range. The mouse uses a laser promising accurate tracking on anything other than glass or a mirror. Official pricing is unknown and the MK520 should ship soon and it uses the Logitech unifying receiver for connectivity..

Etymonic has unveiled a new line of in-ear noise canceling headset in a variety of colors. Their MC3 and M5 lines, retailing for $99 and $79 USD respectively, feature an inline control pod and a noise isolating microphone with adjustable volume for music and other things like phone calls. The top of the line MC series for $179 feature an expanded control 3-button pod that's inline with the audio cable and are designed for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

PC peripheral maker KeySonic has just added the KSK-5200 RFM wireless keyboard into its lineup this week which will attract many HTPC owners looking for a compact keyboard/mouse solution in the lounge.

This unit includes a scroll wheel and couple mouse buttons on the left, whilst on the right is a trackball, doing away with the need for a separate mouse.

Over the years, Microsoft has produced lots of peripherals for computers for gaming and general office work. With a few exceptions, the products are typically not all that exciting and have boring designs. I did like the design of the SideWinder keyboard for gamers that had the removable number pad from Microsoft, but it was the only cool product from the company in a long time.

PC peripheral mob Mad Catz has let loose some info (and images) of a new range of keyboards and mice to be officially introduced later in the month.

This new range of keyboards and mice come under Mad Catz' 'Eclipse' family. Beginning with the Eclipse Wireless litetouch keyboard, this is the most expensive in the new lineup with a very sleek design with backlit scissor keys and fancy touch sensitive panel in place of the usual numpad.

CES 2010 - Back at Computex last year Thermaltake debuted its eSports brand and idea to the world and it looks like we are about to be able to buy the first batch of products designers purely for gamers.

During our visit at CES we were shown a couple of upcoming keyboards that see many of the popular high-end gaming keyboard features, but a price that the average gamer can actually afford.

What is entirely different though is that the keyboard is able to support two cooling fans at front left and right of the keyboard. We tried out the keyboard for a short time and could definitely feel the air flowing through my hands and fingers.

Remember the little Asus Eee Keyboard? You know the one that was shown off at Computex and everyone was so excited about it. Well that little device is finally going to make its US debut in October.

The tiny little self-contained device features a 4-inch touch screen and even wireless HDMI. Asus is also packing in the usual Atom 1.6GHz CPU 1GB DDR2 RAM (would be better with 2GB) and either a 16 or 32GB HDD. Just large enough for a Windows 7 install for use as a media center.

There is no work on the size of the internal battery yet though. Pricing should be about $500 which is pretty close to what Asus said when they first showed it off. It seems likely that the timing of the launch means that some flavor of Windows 7 will be offered but it is also possible that Mobiln might be preinstalled.

Still I think this would look pretty cool sitting on just about any coffee table.

Intel's Moblin has been making the rounds this year (I had it installed in a Virtual Machine for a month) it even managed to pop up on an Asus Eee Keyboard at Computex.

Luckily the gang at netbooks.de were ready with a video camera and caught the whole thing.

Although the Eee Keyboard in the shot is not a production system (after all Moblin is still in Beta Stage) it is very interesting to see on the Eee Keyboard. I have a feeling that once it is launched we may see a lot more of Intel's Moblin.

OCZ has expanded their Alchemy line of peripherals by introducing the Illuminati keyboard. The new keyboard is meant for multimedia consumers and has a slew of features that accommodate the needs of gamers and enthusiasts as well.

HP has come out of its shell a bit with some mice and keyboards that most would have thought the likes of HP wouldn't dare tackle up against the competition.

A company by the name of Cybernet has just released its newest All-in-One PC Zero Footprint product.

The ZPC-GX31 is a complete PC system inside a keyboard - or a fancy case with a built-in keyboard - depending on which way you look at it, as explained by one of our writers. It comes with an external 180-watt AC PSU and weighs in at almost 4KG / 8.5 lbs (including the PSU), which isn't bad at all.

Last week Razer teased its fans with a preview of an upcoming mouse which we can today confirm is called the Salmosa Gaming Mouse.

Danish specialist gaming accessory maker SteelSeries has launched it long awaited 7G series keyboard and it had been designed specifically for professional and competitive gamers. SteelSeries claims that it has the most powerful PS/2 buffer system ever created and it allows you to press every single key on the keyboard simultaneously. It's meant to reduce any ghosting effects that you can get with regular keyboards which tend to result in a kind of lag.

Each of the keys features a gold plated mechanical switch and a 50 million operation life time. SteelSeries claims that this gives the 7G an edge for gamers as it offers more actions per minute than any other keyboard in the world. Any takers? All keys also operated at 60g with a travel time which is meant to be about 50 percent faster than other competing products.

A subsidiary website of cnet dubbed 'crave' has posted up some very brief details of a USB keyboard with a difference, it sports a built-in touch screen and stylus on the right-hand side for handwriting recognition.

Unfortunately very little about this unique keyboard has been revealed just yet, particularly in terms of what purpose the handwriting area is primarily designed for. However we do know that the overall dimensions of the keyboard are 16.22-inches x 6.3-inches x 0.51-inches, weighing 28.32 ounces. Pricing is also confirmed to be quite low at around $25 from DealExtreme.
