Samsung is the foldable smartphone leader but Apple will have its foldable iPhone out next year and we can expect a lot of "magical" and "revolutionary" claims when it hits, underscored by recent rumors.

In a new report from TrendForce, we're hearing that Apple is moving into the foldable smartphone business and it is putting an extra emphasis on durability and the elimination of the crease on the display. Apple engineers are reportedly experimenting with advanced technologies including laser-drilled metal plates under the display to minimize creasing, which is an issue on all foldable smartphones.
Apple doesn't want to release a foldable iPhone without making it near-perfect, which is why we've been hearing rumors and reports about the company all but eliminating the crease on the foldable display. As for the specs, we should expect the foldable iPhone to be dubbed the iPhone Ultra, packing a 5.5-inch outer display that is good for those quick, one-handed operations like calls, text messaging, and checking your notifications.

The internal display will fold out into a larger 7.8-inch display that will deliver an iPad-like experience for increases in productivity, entertainment, gaming, and multitasking. Apple will reportedly work with developers to take advantage of the bigger display together with the inner display.

Samsung is expected to ship 2.4 million of its new Galaxy Z Fold 7 smartphones this year, and I'm sure it'll pick up even more as the next-gen Galaxy Z Fold 8 is unveiled in 2026, so Apple will have its foldable competition hotter than ever before, ready for the foldable iPhone.
