TL;DR: Apple's first foldable iPhone, launching in late 2026, will feature a 7.8-inch foldable display, A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process, 12GB RAM, and up to 1TB storage. Priced over $2000, it aims to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 by offering a premium hinge and crease-free display.

Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone is still over a year away, but we've got some spec comparisons between other flagship foldable smartphones, including Samsung's just-launched Galaxy Z Fold 7 smartphone.

In a new report from analyst firm UBS spotted by insider @Jukanrosleve on X, we have Apple's new foldable iPhone launching with Apple's new in-house A20 Pro chip made on TSMC's new 2nm process node, as well as Apple's new C2 5G modem.

We're to expect the foldable iPhone to launch with 12GB of RAM and have 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, while the inner screen is expected to span 7.8 inches, while the cover screen will be 5.5 inches. When folded, the foldable iPhone is expected to measure in at between 9.0 and 9.5mm, while when unfolded we are to expect 4.5 to 4.8mm thickness.

If we compare this against Samsung's just-launched Galaxy Z Fold 7, which packs Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Elite 8 processor, 12GB and 16GB RAM options, and 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, there aren't many differences there. When it comes to the foldable display sizes, the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 wins with a larger 8-inch inner screen and 6.5-inch cover display, and it's also thinner with a 8.9mm when folded, and just 4.2mm when unfolded.

There's also some comparisons against the Galaxy Z Fold SE and Huawei Mate XT, with the Chinese-made Mate XT featuring a tri-fold display that's 12.8mm when folded and 4.8mm when unfolded. The Mate XT also features a whopping 10.2-inch foldable display size when stretched out with its triple screen setup, 7.9 inches with the dual-screen, and 6.4 inches with the single screen.

Apple will be behind its foldable phone competitors when it finally launches the foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026, but we're to expect a more premium foldable display, a higher-end hinge mechanism, and more. It's also the first foldable iPhone, so the first foldable product from Apple that'll run its in-house iOS software.

We've been hearing that Apple will be charging over $2000 for its new foldable iPhone, which will bring it in line with Samsung charging $2000 for its new Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it should come in cheaper than the Huawei Mate XT which sells for $2800 in China.

Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026, so we're still a year away from the launch, but the specifications shouldn't change between now and then. The question is, how revolutionary and magical the new foldable iPhone will be, which is expected to be dubbed the iPhone Ultra.
