TL;DR: Stellar Blade sold over 1 million PC copies in three days, with Chinese gamers accounting for 56% of sales due to localization and discounts. This success boosted total franchise sales to 3 million, highlighting China's strong demand for action hack-and-slash games and marking a significant win for Sony in the region.

Stellar Blade is smashing success on PC, with the game selling over 1 million copies on Steam within 3 days. The game's breakout performance on PC helped push total cross-platform sales to 3 million. This means that about one-third of the franchise's sales were made in this short PC launch window.

According to new data from Alinea Analytics, most of these new PC game sales were made in China, underlining the region's healthy appetite for action-based hack-and-slash games.

Data estimates from the firm show that China made up around ~56% of Stellar Blade's total PC sales, but the United States only made up 13% of sales.

The firm notes that ShiftUp certainly sweetened the pot for Chinese gamers. Stellar Blade was sold at a sizable discount in China ($37 compared to $60) and it also had full Chinese localization with voice acting and proper lip-syncing.

Stellar Blade's hit status is a big win for Sony, who hasn't entirely broken through in the region. Sony has put together its China Hero Project in a bid to attract talent and foster new entry points into China's lucrative video games market.

Black Myth Wukong was the last major AAA game to enjoy a huge spike in sales thanks to the Chinese market, amassing 10 million sales shortly after launch primarily thanks to Chinese gamers.

Developed on a budget of $70 million, developer Game Science is confident Black Myth Wukong can achieve 30 million lifetime sales. Wukong shares similarities with Stellar Blade insofar as gameplay mechanics and careful attention to detail to Chinese games' likes and dislikes.
