Blizzard producer Matt Cederquist answers questions from the Diablo 2 community and comments on solo self-found, a type of play that a subset of gamers particularly enjoy.

At Blizzcon 2026, Diablo 2 streamer MrLlamaSC spoke to Diablo dev Matt Cederquist about what could be on the horizon for D2R. While nothing was confirmed, Cederquist did say the team has identified a bunch of unique items that could use rebalancing (along with some runewords). He also commented on solo self-found, or SSF, but there's no telling if D2R could get updated with some sort of dedicated UI or framework to serve the mode.
Popular Now: GTA 3, Vice City, and Liberty City Stories are coming to the New Nintendo 3DS"We added solo self-found into Diablo 3," Cederquist said. "Diablo 2 is a really good place for a solo self-found because you have specific player bases that do want to do that players 8, online ladder race. I think it's awesome."
SSF is a self-prescribed mode of play that's become increasingly more popular throughout the years, especially in mods like Project Diablo 2. It's essentially singleplayer but still online, although there's no trading or playing with others at all. You're all on your own in solo self-found.
Blizzard has issued a few updates and tweaks since the release of the Reign of the Warlock expansion, so there are still teams paying close attention to what needs changing...and possibly what needs added.

It's unclear whether or not D2R will receive another major expansion to help usher in some of these new features, but for now Blizzard may just make a few changes here and there. The Reign of the Warlock expansion is believed to have sold well for Blizzard and the studio might be keen on recreating that kind of success.
