Insomniac has released multiple updates for Wolverine, and the latest makes some big changes to the controversial scent trails that lead players through gameplay, significantly reducing their appearance.

As is usually the case with controversial games, Wolverine is getting updated with player feedback in mind. And it's been loud and clear for Wolverine--for days, the internet was littered with clips and gifs making fun of various features like the scent trails, which basically show players exactly where to go at any given time.

Now Wolverine has been patched and updated to make the scent trails much less noticeable, and Insomniac confirms that it might even give players the option to turn off the trails entirely. "Our team continues to evaluate ways to further improve Senses in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update," the studio said in the hotfix changelog.

On paper, Wolverine is a success; Alinea Analytics estimates that Wolverine has sold nearly 2 million copieshttps://www.tweaktown.com/news/113631/insomniacs-wolverine-hits-1-9-million-sales-despite-controversy-becomes-sonys-top-first-party-game-of-2026/index.html in a few days after launch, making it one of the best-sellers of 2026 and, as the firm notes, the top-performing PlayStation Studios game of the year.

Both Insomniac and Sony faced steep backlash from enthusiast fans over controversial design decisions, however, the general PlayStation populace seems to enjoy the game; not only was Wolverine among the top pre-ordered games on the PS Store across multiple geographies, but it's currently the #1 best-selling game on the US PS Store as well.
