TL;DR: NVIDIA will add official per-game Resizable BAR on/off controls to the NVIDIA App with the next GeForce Game Ready driver; the control exists in the 11.0.9.239 beta but needs the upcoming driver to function. Resizable BAR changes CPU-GPU data transfer sizes and can boost or hurt game performance.

NVIDIA is preparing to introduce official Resizable BAR controls in the NVIDIA App for the first time, enabling NVIDIA GPU owners to switch the feature on or off manually per game. Jacob Freeman announced the update on X, revealing that Resizable BAR manipulation will arrive with the next upcoming GeForce Game Ready driver update. That said, the feature is already available in the NVIDIA App 11.0.9.239 beta, but apparently the next Game Ready driver will be required to use the feature.

As previously mentioned, this is the first time NVIDIA has given Resizable BAR controls to its users in an official capacity. Previously, if you wanted to switch Resizable BAR on or off, you needed to use third-party software to mod the NVIDIA driver to run a particular game with the feature on or off.

The performance implications of having this feature readily available for users to tweak in the NVIDIA App won't be known for a while until people start using it. NVIDIA already switches Resizable BAR on or off with games it already supports through its drivers, making it unnecessary to switch Resizable BAR to anything but its default state for games that NVIDIA has already optimized with its drivers. Where tweaking Resizable BAR manually will likely become handy is with new game releases where NVIDIA has not had a chance to optimize the game, and for older and smaller titles that never got game-ready driver support.

Resizable BAR (ReBAR) has been around since 2008, but the feature was not explored as a method to boost gaming performance until 2019. Resizable BAR adjusts the amount of data that can be transferred between a CPU and GPU beyond its default 256MB limit, enabling the CPU to transfer more data to the GPU in bigger (and critically fewer) data chunks. Performance improvements by tweaking Resizable BAR vary greatly depending on the game, and in a worst-case scenario, a game can see a performance regression by turning Resizable BAR on or off.
