The Bottom Line
Over the years most of the products we have had from TRENDnet have been either wireless routers or network switches. Lately, they have reinvested in their security lineup offering several new solutions, one of which is the TWC-L10 in-house today.
The TWC-L10 is an indoor smart security solution offering both lighting and a camera in one package. On the camera side of things, we have a 720p sensor with a 185-degree viewing angle with a telescopic base adjusting from 4 to 6 ΒΌ inches. It offers PIR motion detection built-in microphone and two-way audio support along with onboard recording with microSD. On the lighting side, we have a E26 medium screw base for powering the device and a 360 lumen 6w LED with a color temperature of 4000K.
MSRP of the TRENDnet TWC-L10 comes in at $79.99 with a two-year warranty.
Packaging is clean with an image of the camera/light. To the right, we have lighting specifications.
The side of the box offers more insight into the features of this solution. 720p resolution, PIR motion sensor, two-way audio and onboard recording to name a few.
Included with the camera; we have a quick start guide and QR code tag.
The camera offers a lens in the center and to the left a motion sensor dome. Down below you will find the microSD slot, the surrounding outside is comprised of the lighting.
Here we have a look at the American standard, E26 base.
The base of the bulb is adjustable to fit most standard recessed lighting cans.
ReadyView is the app used to view and control the TWC-L10.
Setup is a few steps and includes a wizard to guide you through.
After your light gives its status via the blue or green light, we move to the next step which is searching for it and adding it to the network.
Once we get past setup, we have settings for the device, which allow you to name the device, change the password and Wi-Fi Network. At the bottom, you can manage your microSD card and check firmware.
I installed the TWC-L10 in a hallway between the garage and house to monitor traffic coming through. As you can see video quality is quite good even over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Below we have controls for turning on/off motion and the light, sound and image zoom. The app also has controls for recording to the microSD card or taking a picture.
I've been using the TWC-L10 for going on three months now in the same hallway and I must say it's a fantastic solution, especially for a room that has continuous power to the ceiling lighting. The motion detection enables me to have a light that turns on only at night when it senses me walking through. On the flip side, if this light is on and it does sense motion it flickers letting you know it is recording, which I did find a bit eerie.
Build quality is decent but does have that cheap feeling to it especially with the amount of play the base extension has in it. That said, camera quality is pretty good and functionality is a non-issue. Performance is superb, I had no issue setting up the camera or navigating the application to manage the camera, the video quality is on point, even over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi taking advantage of only needing to push 720p.
Overall, the TWC-L10 is a solid option for anyone wanting a recessed lighting solution that combines a mid-range security camera with subtle lighting.
