A sword which was supposedly dropped from Elden Ring (among other cut content) has been discovered in the game - though don't get too excited (we'll come back to why in a moment).
However, the finding of the blade is a definitely a cool story, as it was only known to exist in Elden Ring thanks to data miners who had previously stumbled across unused icons, one of which was the battered and aged looking sword.
As GamesRadar (via TechRadar) points out, the weapon was discussed in a YouTube video by Ziostorm, who then flagged on X (formerly Twitter) that a player had actually found the blade in the Lands Between.
Pinopinisimo was the discoverer of the sword, and as Ziostorm points out: "It seems the gravestone swords you can find across The Lands Between were originally meant to be a weapon the player could use."
The bad news is that you can't actually wield the sword, it's simply a decorative item (and indeed, it's unclear if the weapon really was ever intended for use by the player).
There were two other swords that use the exact same hilt unearthed by data miners, meaning they could be out there in-game, waiting to be found - or they might be upgraded versions of the blade. As Ziostorm observes: "One of them has Haligtree iconography and the other appears to be burned by frenzy."
If the upgrade theory is correct, that means they were supposed to be wielded by the player, of course.
Ziostorm was the source of a rumor about the expansion for Elden Ring just a couple of weeks ago, with the leaker asserting that Shadow of the Erdtree will arrive on February 5, 2024, with a reveal previous to that at The Game Awards (in December).
