The first certified HDMI 2.2 Ultra96 cables are now available to order, even though the hardware needed to take advantage of them is still roughly a year away. Silkland has opened orders for its H96 series, which appears to be the first Ultra96-certified cable lineup available to consumers worldwide.
The 2-meter version starts at $32.99, with a 3-meter option available for $56. Shipments will begin in batches during the week of October 5. ELECOM also revealed its own Ultra96 cables on September 8, advertised as the first certified products of their type in Japan, though those aren't expected to ship until mid-November.

As a refresher, HDMI 2.2 was finalized in June 2025, doubling the maximum bandwidth from 48 Gbps to 96 Gbps. This unlocks uncompressed 4K at 240Hz and 8K at 60Hz with full 4:4:4 chroma at 10- and 12-bit colour. With Display Stream Compression enabled, the numbers become genuinely absurd, with 4K at 480Hz, 8K at 240Hz, and 16K at 60Hz.
The specification also introduces the Latency Indication Protocol, designed to improve audio and video synchronisation when a signal passes through a soundbar or receiver. Existing features including VRR, ALLM, Dynamic HDR, and eARC all carry over, while the cables remain backward compatible with current HDMI 2.1 devices.

Ultra96 is the strictest cable certification HDMI has ever introduced. Every model must be tested at an HDMI Forum-authorised testing centre, and, critically, each cable length is certified independently. A 2-meter cable passing the test says nothing about the 3-meter version of the same product. Each certified cable carries its own label with a QR code linking to the verified result on the official HDMI website.

That said, while the cables are here, no GPU, console, or television actually supports HDMI 2.2 yet. NVIDIA's RTX 50 series and AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series both use HDMI 2.1b. HDMI 2.2 hardware is expected to arrive in 2027, and even then, AMD's upcoming RDNA 5 architecture is reportedly targeting 64 to 80 Gbps rather than the full 96 Gbps.
