Nintendo fans may soon have a full slate of new games to sink their teeth into, as a leaker has said that new Metroid, Zelda, and Smash Bros. titles/content are currently in development.
The claims, which suggest 2027 - 2028 will bring new entries or updates to these iconic franchises, have reignited excitement around Nintendo's next-gen hardware and IP roadmap. To maintain the pace of Nintendo Switch 2 sales, Nintendo needs to keep releasing new titles to give gamers a strong reason to upgrade.
According to KiwiTalkz, a prominent video games journalist who regularly interviews developers, Nintendo is currently working on something new in the three aforementioned franchises for the Nintendo Switch 2. Kiwi Talkz hinted at a potential wave of first-party games slated to launch in a "year or two".

While details remain scarce, the speculation aligns with Nintendo's historical development cycles and the timing of the Legend of Zelda movie, set for 2027. These rumors also echo fan desires for more Metroid Prime and a new Smash Bros., two of Nintendo's best-selling franchises.
The potential 2027 - 2028 window is strategically timed to support the Nintendo Switch 2 and offers a strong incentive for hardware upgrades among fans of Nintendo's core franchises.
With Nintendo yet to confirm anything, fans are left only to speculate. But one thing is for sure: Nintendo does need to release Switch 2 exclusive titles to maintain healthy Switch 2 console sales. Currently, there are very few Switch 2 exclusive games, and even fewer from Nintendo's most well-known franchises.
I would guess that if these rumors are true, there is a Metroid Prime 4 DLC brewing, and a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is about to get the same treatment as Mario Kart 8 did with the original Nintendo Switch, a Deluxe Edition, which will likely include more playable characters stages, and other content.
