On the heels of Summer Game Fest, the Xbox showcase, and various events like IGN Live and the PC Gamer Show, fans are eager to see what Nintendo has in its hand of cards. The show begins tomorrow morning and is expected to include big reveals to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the group's heaviest-hitting franchises, including Mario and Zelda.

Rumor has it that Nintendo will release a new Zelda Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 in celebration of the big four-oh. That project is believed to be coming this year, whereas a new mainline 3D Mario game isn't expected until 2027.

It also looks like Nintendo is planning some network-wide features to add more anniversary fun to its classic games library. Dataminers have reportedly uncovered evidence of a built-in challenges system similar to Nintendo's other classic Remix games. This could be a way for Nintendo to celebrate its own legacy in a way that may be temporary and online-based without affecting new releases, similar to the other experimental game modes that have come to the service like Super Mario Bros 35 battle royale.

Oddly enough, Nintendo planned to hold maintenance on the digital eShop on the same day as the Direct, but mysteriously delayed the updates until two days later.

Other major announcements expected from the Nintendo Direct include info on FromSoftware's new Switch 2 exclusive Duskbloods, as well as a potential release date for Pokemon Winds and Water. We should also see a bevy of third-party game reveals--everyone wants to launch their games on the Switch 2.
