Report: Xbox PC handheld duo Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X coming mid-October

The release date for the first-ever Xbox handheld has apparently leaked out, with Dealabs' reporting both the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handhelds will release on October 16, 2025 in Europe. It's unclear if this is the same release date for all worldwide geographies including the United States, especially given the current tariff situation.

Microsoft plans to reveal full details including pricing and availability at European games festival Gamescom 2025. While these details have yet to be confirmed, reports say that the Xbox Ally will be €599, and the higher-end Xbox Ally X with its 24GB of RAM and AI-powered chip will be a hefty three hundred euros more at €899. This new hardware sees Microsoft trying to tap the still-nascent handheld PC market while also expanding its total Xbox ecosystem footprint. The company has adapted its Xbox PC app around the handheld form factor, and is even working closely with AMD to design handheld-specific chips like the Ryzen AI Z2 chips that powers the Ally X.

The Ally and Ally X aren't Xbox consoles, though, and are firmly PCs running Windows 11--albeit in a much slimmer hardware form factor than a desktop. The devices have also kicked off speculation on whether or not Microsoft plans to eventually leave the console market and somehow merge the worlds of PC and console gaming together with a hybridized platform.

Microsoft, for its part, has confirmed a new generation of consoles is indeed coming, powered by AMD's AI chips.
