TL;DR: At Computex 2025, ZOTAC unveiled a gaming handheld prototype resembling an unofficial Steam Deck 2, featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 HX 370 processor, Radeon 890M GPU, 7" AMOLED 1080p display, Hall Effect controls, and a custom Manjaro Linux OS optimized for gaming. Release is planned for this year.

At Computex 2025, ZOTAC is showcasing what it's currently calling a 'Gaming Handheld Prototype.' After speaking with the team and reviewing the physical design, I realized that the company is creating what you could refer to as an unofficial Steam Deck 2 - the OLED model.

Let's start with the mobile AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, commonly found in laptops. The prototype doesn't feature the Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip because AMD's latest gaming handheld chip is hard to come by and currently limited to a handful of partners. The gaming performance should be identical, as the AI 9 HX 370 features the same Radeon 890M GPU as the Z2 Extreme, often referred to as Strix Point.

The Steam Deck 2 picture takes shape when you look at the custom version of the gaming-focused Manjaro Linux OS.

With system overlays offering access to things like power settings and Steam Big Picture Mode, the OS experience feels like the Steam Deck's SteamOS. ZOTAC is working with the Manjaro developers to create an experience where you can access all of the handheld's main settings and features while in Steam - ala the Deck.

In its prototype stage, it's smooth, responsive, and fast - all the right things that make the Steam Deck experience superior to Windows on a handheld. With the freedom of Linux, you can also shut down to desktop mode for PC-style app access.

It's no secret that ZOTAC's first gaming handheld from last year was based on Valve's Steam Deck, and that's still true here. You've got the track pads and a similar button layout, but with Hall Effect sticks with radial dials and adjustable triggers. Now, add all of this together, and what you're looking at is a Steam Deck 2 of sorts.

Although still in its prototype phase, the unit looked "finished." ZOTAC told us that it plans to release it this year, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the specs and features below.
