TL;DR: Sony states that Grand Theft Auto 6 will perform best on PS5, utilizing features like DualSense haptics, 3D audio, and fast SSD loading. The game will be enhanced on PS5 Pro, though specific improvements are unclear. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, with pre-orders starting June 25.

Sony says that GTA 6 will 'play best on PS5' ahead of pre-orders opening at midnight tonight, and the game's storefront listing also confirms it'll be enhanced on the mid-gen PlayStation 5 Pro.

Sony's marketing deal with Rockstar has been revealed alongside official confirmation that GTA 6 will cost $80. A new post on the PlayStation Blog gives somewhat vague assertions that PS5 will be the best place to play the hugely anticipated sequel, all without actually highlighting the benefits of the confirmed PS5 Pro enhancements (GTA 6 is also optimized for Xbox Series X/S as well, per the Xbox listing).

In the post, Sony highlights that GTA 6 will use the PS5's proprietary hardware features, including DualSense haptics support like adaptive resistance triggers and improved rumble, complete with sounds coming from the onboard speaker; Tempest 3D Audio engine support; and support of Sony's high-end SSD tech leading to "near-instant loading times."

Interestingly enough, Sony once again mentions that GTA 6 is a singleplayer experience, indicating that GTA Online may not be available at launch:

"Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5's immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19. "

Meanwhile, GTA 6's PlayStation Store listing confirms a PS5 Pro enhanced badge. Neither Sony nor Rockstar have outlined how GTA 6 will get boosted on the PS5 Pro, but the game is expected to have options like Performance and Quality modes, potentially even some sort of frame rate boosts.

At the same time, Digital Foundry said some time ago that GTA 6 will probably run at 30FPS on both the PS5 and PS5 Pro due to how Rockstar's titles typically prioritize CPU performance.

No frame rate targets or optimizations have been revealed for GTA 6.

Pre-orders for GTA 6 open tonight at midnight on June 25, 2026 local time, and will be available on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox marketplace.

All pre-orders will come with a free month of GTA+ regardless where you buy; both PS Store and Xbox store versions offer this bonus.

Pre-loading will begin on November 12, 2026 on all platforms, a week ahead of the game's official launch on November 19, 2026.

The base version of the game retails for $79.99, and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. No disc version will be available at launch, and the game will instead ship with a game code in the box.
