Gateron has created the 'perfect' magnetic keyboard switch

If you've bought a new keyboard specifically for PC gaming in the past year or so, you've probably noticed the arrival of Hall-effect or magnetic keyboards. For those who might need a refresher, magnetic switches, as opposed to mechanical switches, use a magnetic field to precisely actuate keystrokes rather than physical hardware.

The benefit for PC gaming and other tasks is the ability to adjust the actuation point for each key and assign multiple functions to a single keystroke. Plus, magnetic keyboards support SOCD and Rapid Trigger modes, which are becoming increasingly popular among competitive gamers. The only real downside to magnetic switches, for some, is that they do feel and sound different from mechanical switches.

And with that, GATERON has launched its new Magnetic Jade Attraction HE switches, which sport a "game-changing magnetic design" and are said to be "perfect for long coding sessions, fast typing, and competitive gaming." Based on the description and design, GATERON is positioning these as linear magnetic switches without any downsides.

What makes these switches a potential game-changer is that the initial force (30 gf) is identical to the bottom-out force, meaning the keys maintain the same momentum throughout the keystroke. "No more heavy mid-stroke resistance, no abrupt bottom-out impact - just consistent, feather-light actuation from the moment your finger touches the key to full depression," GATERON writes.

The company notes that it's able to achieve this thanks to its new Three-Phase Magnetic Ring design that features a unique "vertical + horizontal" magnetization setup. This adds stability and symmetry to the magnetic field, creating a magnetic force that counteracts the varying force through a keystroke. Throw in a cylindrical stem design that removes wobble and also enhances stability, plus a dual-drive modular structure for the switch, and it sounds like this might just be GATERON's most impressive switch design in a long while.

Plus, the company claims that its new Magnetic Jade Attraction HE switches deliver a premium mechanical typing sound, thanks to a "built-in acoustic chamber," which means you're getting better linear performance than a standard mechanical switch with matching acoustics.
