The open beta for Battlefield 6 is scheduled to take place on the weekend, and ahead of the action, details have emerged regarding the matchmaking process for multiplayer games.
CharlieIntel has revealed in a recent X post that Battlefield 6 will include skill-based matchmaking that will also take into account several other factors, such as ping, player location, server availability, and the game mode. Ultimately, there will be a "skill" factor at play, but it will be a portion of the pie that makes up the matchmaking process.
What isn't known is how much of that "skill" factor makes up the matchmaking pie. CharlieIntel says the news was confirmed to him at the Battlefield 6 multiplayer press briefing, where he was also told that matchmaking will vary on the game mode and player count.
- Ping
- Player's location
- Server availability
- Skill factor
Judging from what EA has revealed so far, it appears Battlefield 6 will be incorporating two matchmaking systems for Battlefield 6: one that is player-based and a second that is team-based. How does that work? It appears that skill-based matchmaking occurs before a player enters a match, followed by a second round of matchmaking on the server side to balance the teams. This way, players are matched with other players approximately at their skill level, and then the players are equally spread among teams.
Neither EA nor Battlefield Labs has provided a clear and concise answer to how matchmaking will work in Battlefield 6. However, as we approach the open beta weekend or the game's release, we hope to receive further clarification.
