FromSoftware is directly responding to fan feedback by adding in a two-player co-op mode into Elden Ring Nightreign.

Two-player mode is coming to Elden Ring Nightreign on July 30, developer FromSoftware has announced.
"On July 30, 2025, take on Night's terrors as two kindred souls. Duo Expeditions will be added in patch 1.02 of ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN. Additionally, patch 1.02 will include quality-of-life UI improvements, including more Relics filtering options."

The new quality of life filters allow users to sort relics by effects, size, and other attributes, and have been universally praised among fans. FromSoftware is also expected to drop the next salvo of Everdark bosses alongside Patch 1.02, but the team hasn't revealed exact specifics just yet.
Up until the update, Nightreign could only be played solo or in a three-person group. Patch 1.02 will unlock the full combinations of play except in one key area.
Nightreign is a live service game through and through, but Bandai Namco/FromSoftware didn't add in cross-play support for some reason, potentially due to technical or budgetary concerns (or perhaps it has something to do with Sony's investment into the studio). That's an especially odd choice for a game that has cosmetic microtransactions, which typically do best when as many players can see the costumes as possible.
The new two-player mode will also give players more opportunities to experiment with duo builds, and we should also expect FromSoftware to make some key balancing adjustments and changes to the various class skills to help encourage duo play.
