Starfield fans are latching on to an innocuous comment made by Bethesda on a recent game update post, but it's hard to say if a new expansion will actually happen or not.

Starfield's latest Shattered Space expansion is almost a year old now, and fans are clamoring for more content. Optics and visibility into what's on the horizon remains dim, especially with the latest Xbox layoffs affecting multiple projects. Bethesda also reportedly cut funding for a new FPS game from John Romero, so it's difficult to say which projects may be funded at this point.
Bethesda recently posted up patch notes for Starfield's new 1.15.222 update, saying: "Looking ahead, we're continuing work on future updates and will share more about the exciting things we have planned for Starfield in the coming months."
On its own, that's not a lot to go on. But matching this up with recent trends and rumors might lend credence to the possibility of a new Starfield expansion, or at least some sort of announcement regarding the game.
Microsoft recently made the decision to break exclusivity for all of its games, and as we know, Microsoft decided to purchase ZeniMax to prevent Sony from making a Starfield exclusivity deal for PlayStation.
This means that Starfield could very well show up on PlayStation 5 at some point, but the jury's out on exactly when this will happen. So far, Microsoft has staggered the releases of its once-exclusive games on competing platforms, so a Starfield PS5 release could be timed specifically around potential seasonal dips in sales.
There's also reports that a new Starfield expansion is indeed in the works, but it may not release in 2025; known gaming insider NateTheHate says the next expansion may not release in 2025.
Bethesda has yet to announce a new second expansion for Starfield.
