TL;DR: Beat Saber will end updates and new content for PS4 and PS5, including PSVR2 support, starting June 2025, with multiplayer disabled from January 2026. Despite Sony's PSVR2 price cut and PC support, the headset's impact remains limited, signaling a shift in Beat Games' VR development focus.

Beat Saber is officially dropping support for Sony's PSVR2 this month.

Despite major technological innovations, the PlayStation VR2 didn't make a substantial splash in gaming the way that Sony had hoped it would. Maybe it was the steep $549 price tag on top of having to already own a PS5, or maybe it was the games selection. Whatever the case, it looks like the PSVR2 is winding down both on a platform and partner level.

Today, Beat Games announced that Beat Saber on PSVR2 and the original PSVR will no longer receive new updates and content, and that multiplayer functionality is also being removed on January 21, 2026.

"As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025," developer Beat Games writes in the update.

As for Sony's part, the company opened up PSVR2 support on PC so that the headset may live on, and recently reduced the price tag of the PSVR2 headset from $549 to just $399.

The company hasn't really discussed the PSVR2 in recently quarterly updates, and it wasn't even mentioned in Sony's latest 2025 Annual Business Strategy Meeting.

END OF SUPPORT FOR PS4/PS5

Dear PS4/PS5 players,

As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025. Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years.

What this means for you:

  • This update will not impact your ability to keep playing Beat Saber, and you will still have access to content that you previously purchased on the PlayStation platform.
  • Beat Saber will still be available for purchase on PS4 and PS5 devices, and you can still play or purchase songs or music packs that were released prior to June 18, 2025. However, no new content will be released on these platforms after that date.
  • Additionally, starting on January 21st, 2026, multiplayer will no longer be available in Beat Saber on PS4 and PS5.
  • Cross-buy, however, will remain active between the PS4 and PS5 base game.
