TL;DR: The Nintendo Switch 2 will support USB mice for enhanced precision in FPS and creative games, alongside its innovative Joy-Con 2 controllers designed for mouse-like control. Wired USB mouse compatibility prioritizes external devices, improving gameplay accuracy and user experience on the upcoming console.

The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 is right around the corner, and we have just learned Nintendo's upcoming console will arrive with support for normal USB mice in certain games, begging the question of whether users will also be able to plug in a keyboard.

Mouse gaming is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, with Nintendo baking in their own version of mouse gaming straight into the Joy-Con 2 controllers, which can be rotated onto their side and used as a mouse in a claw-grip-like fashion. Nintendo intends for gamers to take advantage of this new feature in first-person-shooter titles and possibly creative games such as Mario Maker, as both categories of games benefit from precision.

However, if the claw-gripped Joy-Con 2 controllers aren't satisfactory, users are able to plug in their own mouse via the USB port. The compatibility was revealed during a look at Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening CE, where producer Michi Ryu did that very thing - use the Joy-Con 2 controllers, stop, and then connect a USB mouse and continue playing.

"Once you connect the USB mouse, a message will appear in the top left indicating that the mouse is connected," Ryu said via translation. "When the USB mouse is connected, it takes priority over the Joy-Con 2."

Notably, the mouse that demonstrated this capability was wired, and the producer did not mention that wireless USB mice will also be supported by the new console. However, given the Nintendo Switch 2 comes with Bluetooth capabilities, and is proven to have firmware that supports mouse functionality, it would be more surprising the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't come with support for wireless mice.
