Windows 11 offers 50% better productivity and much better security than the OS it replaced, Microsoft has reminded us, as Windows 10's End of Life nears.

TL;DR: As Windows 10 nears its End of Life (EoL), Microsoft is again busy promoting Windows 11 on Copilot+ PCs, and Surface devices in particular. The company highlights up to 50% faster workflows and a 62% reduction in security incidents for businesses using Windows 11 PCs compared to Windows 10 devices.

As Windows 10's End of Life comes closer and closer, Microsoft is again advancing arguments about how much better Windows 11 is - specifically on Copilot+ PCs.

In a new post on the Surface IT Pro Blog (highlighted by Windows Latest), it's not surprising to find that Microsoft is pushing its own Surface Copilot+ PCs. And to be fair to the company, it's not unreasonable to do so - they are good-quality devices, after all.

As it's an IT blog, the focus is on businesses, and Microsoft notes: "Surface devices are engineered for focused productivity, helping businesses accelerate results. Workflows run up to 50% faster on average compared to older devices. Whether creating content, reviewing documents, or analyzing data, Surface provides the performance to stay productive and competitive."

Now, that's a big claim - 50% faster workflows (albeit 'up to' as ever) is a big leap - but it comes with a footnote. This is data gathered which is comparing the "day-to-day experience with Windows 11 Pro laptops" compared to Windows 10 notebooks, as published in a study from a couple of years back.

That study was completed by Principled Technologies, but commissioned by Microsoft, so obviously we must season the findings in that respect. Also, this is a somewhat dated study, though we don't ever remember Microsoft highlighting it before - and obviously the results still broadly stand.

Aside from claims of vastly better productivity on Windows 11, Microsoft further reminds us that the newer OS also delivers better security. That amounts to a 62% drop in "security incidents" for businesses using PCs that have Windows 11 installed, based on another survey drawing a comparison to Windows 10 machines.

And to be fair to Microsoft, Windows 11 is more secure at a fundamental level, and we've found its performance to be a bit peppier than Windows 10 for general, daily computing duties.

The elephant in the room, of course, remains the looming scrapheap of Windows 10 PCs that can't be upgraded - and what the plan is for those devices beyond the first year of (more reasonably priced) support for extended updates. (Something consumers have access to for the first time, albeit just for one year in this case).
