The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to ship up to 8 million units at launch, analysts have told Bloomberg.

Nintendo could have anywhere from 6-8 million Switch 2 consoles ready for the system's June 5 launch, and based on current trends, it's possible that Nintendo could sell all of these units. If Nintendo does manage to sell 6 million Switch 2 consoles in a two- or three-month span, then it will be the best-selling and most-produced console system at launch in the history of gaming.
For its part, Nintendo may have underestimated demand, at least in key regions like Japan. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently apologized to Japanese gamers because the company cannot meet the full Switch 2 pre-order demand in Japan. Over 2.2 million Japanese people applied to pre-order the Switch 2--a stat that represents about $75 million in revenue from Switch Online subscriptions alone--and Nintendo simply can't ensure everyone will get to pre-order a system.

As for year one sales, some firms like DFC Intelligence have downwardly adjusted their Switch 2 sales forecasts for the year due to tariffs and economic conditions; DFC had originally expected the Switch 2 to sell between 15 to 17 million systems, but that's been dropped to just a flat 15 million.
Other firms like Aldora believe Nintendo could have as many as 18 million units available at launch, and AB Bernstein thinks this stockpile could be around 20 million. Remember that this an annual figure and would range from June 2025 - 2026, not June - December 2025.
