High hopes for Intel Battlemage B770, or other beefy 2nd-gen Arc GPU have seemingly been dashed

Rumors of a higher-end BMG-G31 GPU for the Battlemage generation have been around for a while, but apparently Intel killed this idea quite some time back.

TL;DR: Intel's rumored plans for a higher-end Battlemage graphics card are now in serious doubt, based on a fresh piece of speculation which suggests the BMG-G31 GPU was abandoned last year (in Q3). Take this rumor itself with a pinch of salt, though.

Hopes that Intel may yet release a higher-end Battlemage graphics card - following the success, and positive reception, of the Arc B580 - appear to be fading fast.

Wccftech was on the ball enough to catch an update from a well-known leaker on X which poured cold water on the theories that Intel could still be preparing a beefy Battlemage GPU to take on AMD and NVIDIA.

Specifically, this was the Battlemage BMG-G31 GPU, which has been popping up here and there on the rumor mill for a while - plus the success of the B580 (and B570) might've further buoyed hopes that such a move could be coming from Intel.

However, as you can see from the post above from hardware leaker Jaykihn, supposedly work on BMG-G31 was abandoned, and in fact it was dropped from Intel's roster of in-progress GPUs as far back as Q3 of last year.

Of course, this in itself is just a rumor, so there's still potential that this latest bit of chatter is incorrect, although Jaykihn (one of the more reliable sources posting on X) sounds pretty confident in their assertions.

If true, it'd be a shame, because it really would be nice to see Intel push out Battlemage B770 / B750 equivalents of the respective Alchemist top dogs, considering that as mentioned, Team Blue has picked up a lot of acclaim for the Arc B580.

As for Celestial, which somebody on X asks about, Jaykihn says that they have nothing further to report on the 3rd-gen graphics cards. We have, however, seen clues recently that Intel is indeed working on those desktop GPUs, but as ever, wear your finest skeptical hat when pondering these kind of rumors.
