Microsoft's games division tonight announced that it will publish Hideo Kojima's new stealth game PHYSINT as part of a widening partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox. The game was previously set to be published by PlayStation.

Hideo Kojima's new Metal Gear spiritual successor game PHYSINT will now be published by Xbox. The project was first announced two years ago and was to be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The project received more updates last year, where Kojima shared a teaser image for PHYSINT and confirmed various details like a cast of characters. At the time, Kojima said PHYSINT was a "next-stage tactical espionage action game" that will be "using technology even further than OD."
PlayStation shared a message, explaining that PS Studios "made the difficult decision" to end their involvement in PHYSINT. Sony goes on to say that their relationship with Kojima "remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation" and that Sony also "looks forward to continued close collaboration" with Kojima in the future.
"Creators have choices about where and how they bring their ideas to life. We're honored that Kojima-san has chosen XBOX to work with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on PHYSINT. His ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity we want to support at XBOX," said Asha Sharma, XBOX CEO.
"This expands our relationship with XBOX beyond OD. As we move forward with the development of PHYSINT, we remain committed to redefining the action-espionage genre for players around the world," said Hideo Kojima, Game Creator and Founder of KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS.
The Xbox-KojiPro partnership will also go outside of just games like OD and PHYSINT. The press release announcement reveals that Xbox will work alongside Kojima on film and TV shows.
