The NEOGEO AES+ console has been pushed back and delayed by a year, and will now release on September 16, 2027.

SNK and Plaion are resurrecting the classic NEOGEO from the 1990s, complete with authentic hardware, joysticks, and even accurate cartridge repros. While pre-orders went live back in April for $250, promising a November launch, the system has now been delayed to September 2027. The reason? Component shortages, the same thing that's driving up PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch costs.
"We're sorry to say that the worldwide release will not take place on September 16, 2027," Plaion wrote on Twitter. "Global component supply constraints mean we simply cannot manufacture enough systems to deliver the worldwide launch our community deserves."
The company goes on to say that this extra time could lead to more investment into the NEOGEO AES+, and while this is vague, it could mean more features, accessories, and/or games could show up in the future.
"Rather than launch with severely limited availability, we're taking the extra time to expand production, secure the components we need, and invest in an ever bigger future for NEOGEO AES+."
These NEOGEO consoles will be a bit pricey; the unit is $250, but the games are $90 a piece and the main console doesn't come with any game cartridges. The bonus is that the AES+ supports backwards compatibility with original NEOGEO carts from the 1990s--these were novel because they could be swapped between a dedicated AES+ console at home and an actual machine in the arcades.
