Accell Home or Away USB Surge Protector Review
Tyler checks in with his review of Accell's Home or Away surge protector. He is left impressed by the price and USB charging feature.

The Bottom Line

Being that it is summer here in the US, Mother Nature has ramped up with severe weather; rolling brownouts are always in effect in densely populated areas and with that come power surges. Perhaps the best defence we have against these nasty situations is installing a surge protector in front of your prized electronics.
Accell has been in the business of producing adapters, cables and mobile accessories for quite some time. With that business booming, they have dove into designing their very own home or away surge protector. The Accell Travel Surge protector is a three-outlet 621-joule surge protector that along with protecting your devices has built-in USB charge ports. While your devices are plugged into the Accell, a green LED lights up letting you know you are protected while the USB charging ports provide 2.1A of current for the most demanding devices.
MSRP of the Accell Travel Surge Protector is listed at $19.99 with a five-year warranty.

Packaging for the Accell is the clear bubble type. To the right, we have information about the surge protector, while the left houses a peak of the device itself.

Scope of delivery is quite simple feature the surge protector and manual.

The front of the surge protector houses a single power outlet along with both USB charge ports. The LED in the center lights up to let you know your devices are protected, in addition when your devices are protected Accell guarantees up to $100,00 in equipment coverage should the device get damaged from a power surge.

Both the left and right sides of the surge protector house additional power outlets.

With the three power outlets, the Accell uses a single power input that is easily folded away for storing the adapter.
Over the past month or so, I have used this very surge protector in my garage to protect both my air compressor and radio and I can say while we have only a few power loss situations, this surge protector has done quite well. At first, I wasn't sure it would handle the power load from the compressor, but it does indeed do it quite well.
Build quality of the surge protector is really quite good; I wasn't too sure how well a foldaway design would work for a surge protector, but it does appear to be quite solid. The plastics used in this design are very rigid and durable and while the outlets are polarized, they do fit very snug.
Performance wise, I am really impressed with the Accell Travel Surge Protector. Its small enough to fit with you on the go whether your going on business meetings, trade shows or even camping for those here in the states. Adding to the surge protection feature, the USB charging ports are a nice addition to this solution as they allow multiple devices to be connected, and in my case charged both my iPhone 6 and Xbox One controller without issue.
Overall, as I have stated probably too many times the Accell Travel Surge Protector is a great solution for those in the market and the package, as a whole gets even better when you look at the MSRP.

The Bottom Line: Accell's Home or Away surge protector is a great solution for users on the go that want to protect their sensitive electronics, adding to this you get USB charging coupled with the fact that Accell is almost giving these away with their excellent MSRP.
