After months of silence, Naughty Dog just sent out media invites for a special The Last of Us Part II event in LA for September 24. Both Sony and Naughty Dog have been quiet on the sequel's progress, especially after skipping E3 2019, but that should change with a big info blowout during the show. We'll likely see new gameplay footage accompanied by a release date confirmation, which sources say will be in early 2020.

The game will chronicle Ellie's harrowing story of hate as she carves a path of bloody vengeance across the wasteland, and also introduces a new religious-based enemy faction that's quite crazy.

We expect Naughty Dog to raise the bar for Sony's extended first-party push with a huge narrative experience. The game may actually launch before the PlayStation 5's impending release in Holiday 2020, but The Last of Us Part II will indeed be optimized for the higher-end next-gen console thanks to native backward compatibility support.
