He went up against 'The Terminator', took on 'Aliens', chased a 'Twister' and even went down to the real-life 'Titanic', but today we say goodbye to legendary character actor Bill Paxton.

Director James Cameron, who cast Paxton in many of his films released a statement on their 36 year long "friendship of laughter, adventure, love of cinema, and mutual respect friendship of laughter, adventure, love of cinema, and mutual respect... The world is a lesser place for his passing, and I will profoundly miss him." Stars who've shared the screen with him, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Hanks took to Twitter to pay their respects.

Aged just 61, Paxton died after suffering complications from surgery. He leaves behind a wonderful body of work in film and is survived by his wife Louise and two children.
