Hideo Kojima finally accepted his Industry Icon award at The Game Awards tonight, and the renowned Japanese dev took the opportunity to show off an amazing new Death Stranding teaser.
The new Death Stranding teaser trailer clearly showed that Guillermo Del Toro, one of Kojima's most beloved friends and leading horror director, will be feature in the game as a character. We also got our first look at what appears to be the game's sinister antagonist, who is played by the iconic Mads Mikkelsen. So that gives us three major stars joining the cast of Death Stranding: Guillermo Del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, and Norman Reedus, who plays the principal protagonist.
The footage itself gave us a good look at what to expect from the game, as the black ink appears to be a kind of malefic infection that resurrects the undead. Mikkelsen is apparently a general who leads a platoon of horrible zombie skeletons, and Mikkelsen actually had these weird sparking black tentacles that wriggled everywhere. Keighley affirms that the Death Stranding reveal was running at full 4K on a PlayStation 4 Pro.
The entire bit of footage had a nightmarish quality to it, as if we've stepped inside of Kojima's dark imagination for a bizarre ride. The trailer isn't live just yet, but when it rolls out we'll be sure to update this bit of coverage with the awesome footage.
Death Stranding is pegged to release in 2018 exclusively for Sony's PlayStation console, and will have 4K-ready PS4 Pro support.
