TL;DR: Leaker Kepler_L2 claims AMD and NVIDIA will largely postpone next‑gen gaming GPUs to 2028, with only AMD's AT2 (an RDNA 5‑based ~64 CU successor to the RX 9070 XT) possibly arriving in 2027; delays are linked to GDDR7/HBM memory supply constraints and NVIDIA's RTX 50/60 timing is uncertain.

AMD and NVIDIA are reportedly skipping full next-gen gaming GPU releases in 2027, according to well-known leaker Kepler_L2. Posting on the Anandtech forums, Kepler_L2 said only one AMD chip, codenamed AT2, is coming next year, adding that everything else from both AMD and NVIDIA is planned for 2028.

AT2 is believed to be AMD's RDNA 5 successor to the Radeon RX 9070 XT, reportedly built around 64 compute units on the newer architecture. AMD's broader RDNA 5 lineup is rumored to span several dies, from flagship to budget tiers, but based on this leak, most of that range won't show up until 2028.

NVIDIA doesn't come out much better here. Kepler_L2 dismissed a recent claim from Moore's Law Is Dead that the RTX 6090 could still launch in 2027, calling it simply wrong. Separately, the rumored RTX 50 Super refresh isn't looking good either. Asked directly about its odds, leaker MEGAsizeGPU said, "I am not optimistic about it now. It may not be released at all."

None of this is particularly shocking given how strained GDDR7 and memory supply have been lately, with manufacturers redirecting capacity toward HBM for AI accelerators instead of consumer GPUs. That same memory crunch has already been blamed for the RTX 50 Super's earlier delay this year, and it apparently hasn't eased up much since.

Question #1

What does the reported GDDR7 shortage mean for NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Super refresh?

Question #2

Could the leaked delay affect both desktop and gaming-focused GPU launches from AMD and NVIDIA?

If accurate, this will be one of the longer gaps between GPU generations in recent memory. AMD at least gets a single RDNA 5 chip out the door in 2027, giving Radeon buyers something before the full next-gen lineup lands, but NVIDIA fans waiting on a proper RTX 60-series upgrade look set for a longer wait into 2028.
