TL;DR: AMD's next-generation GPU architecture, likely named RDNA 5 or UDNA, will feature up to 96 Compute Units and a 384-bit memory bus, marking a 50% core increase over RDNA 4. Expected in 2026, these GPUs will enhance ray tracing, AI upscaling, and compete with NVIDIA's upcoming flagship models.

AMD's next-generation GPU architecture is either going to be called UDNA or RDNA 5, with leaks suggesting the highest-end next-gen GPU from AMD will feature up to 96 CUs on the flagship GPU, a huge 50% increase in GPU cores over the biggest RDNA 4 chip on the market.

We've been hearing rumbles about AMD's next-generation GPU architecture after RDNA 4, which will either be RDNA 5 in some form, or the introduction of UDNA. The latest rumors on the next-gen Radeon GPU is that AMD is rumored to debut a high-end "multi-chiplet" GPU that could debut with UDNA, but the very latest rumor is from leaker "Kepler_L2" who suggests the next-gen Radeon GPU lineup.

Kepler_L2 explained: "yeah, my guess is the lineup will go from 64CU / 256-bit + 32 CU / 128-bit to 96 CU / 384-bit + 64 CU + 256-bit + 32 CU + 128-bit".

  • Navi 5X (flagship) - 96 CUs on a 384-bit memory bus
  • Navi 5X (mid-range) - 64 CUs on a 256-bit memory bus
  • Navi 5X (low-end) - 32 CUs on a 128-bit memory bus

AMD's next-gen flagship Radeon GPU with 96 Compute Units (CUs) is a monster upgrade over the 64 CUs inside of the flagship RDNA 4 GPU inside of the Radeon RX 9070 XT, and a far wider 384-bit memory bus is another big upgrade over the 256-bit memory bus on the RX 9070 XT. AMD pushed out its new RDNA 4-powered Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs with GDDR6, so we should expect GDDR7 inside the next-gen RDNA 5-powered Radeon RX 10K series.

AMD's next-gen GPU architecture will have a lot of technology learned and shared with next-gen semi-custom SoCs for next-gen consoles, especially Sony's next-gen PlayStation 6 console. We can expect huge upgrades in ray tracing (RT) and artificial intelligence (AI) especially for things like AI-powered upscaling like a next-gen FSR 5 that I'm sure will debut with RDNA 5 or UDNA.

As for whether AMD's next-gen RDNA 5 or UDNA-based Radeon GPU will compete with NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 6090 or not, that's another story in itself. AMD's current RDNA 4-powered flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT competes with the GeForce RTX 5080, but with 50% more GPU cores and a wider 384-bit memory bus, it should come closer to the flagship GeForce RTX series GPU than ever before, hopefully.

AMD's next-gen UDNA GPUs could have 50% more GPU cores than RDNA 4, Radeon 10090 XT incoming 14

NVIDIA will have its GeForce RTX 50 SUPER series out in 2026, so AMD will be competing with those cards if the next-gen Radeon GPUs come out in 2026. However, if they come out in late 2026 or 2027, then AMD will be competing with NVIDIA's next-gen GPUs, and we all know they're going to be more powerful than ever before.

We should expect AMD's next-gen RDNA 5 / UDNA GPUs to enter mass production in Q2 2026, so we should expect more news on them in the next year ahead.
