Sony's new State of Play returns on June 2, 2026 at 2PM PST/5PM EST, offering a full hour of games and content from major developers and publishers.

As per usual, Sony didn't reveal the full lineup of its summer-timed event, but did confirm that Insomniac's new Wolverine game will be front and center with more gameplay footage and info on the visceral adventure, which is due out September 15.

The State of Play event will also be streamed to select movie theaters. Sony is teaming up with the Alamo Drafthouse to broadcast the event in theaters across multiple cities and states, including Raleigh, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, and New York City.

It's likely that Insomniac will also highlight more technical aspects of how the studio is pushing Marvel's Wolverine on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony is rolling out its new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler to developers, and we'll likely see that technology used extensively in Wolverine.

Interestingly enough, IO Interactive says that PSSR 2.0 is very easy to use, and that's on a third-party basis; remember that Insomniac has been close to the technical iteration of the PS5 and the PS5 Pro from the get-go because they're a key first-party studio.

It's possible that Sony could also mention some sort of strategy going forward, letting fans in on its thinking about exclusivity. Recent reports indicate that Sony will no longer bring its narrative-driven singleplayer games over to PC, opting to keep these games exclusive to the PlayStation platform.

This indicates Sony is re-valuing the PlayStation brand amid global hardware disruption, an impending PS6 generation on the horizon, and the possibility that Microsoft could facilitate a gaming console that also launches Steam, thereby letting Xbox console owners access PlayStation games on an indirect basis.
