AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX CPU sets record in Cinebench R23, but chugs 950W doing so

Record score of 186,800 is a new high outside of exotic cooling - only a liquid AIO was used, so when liquid nitrogen comes into play, expect a lot more.

TL;DR: AMD's Threadripper PRO 9995WX managed to hit 186,800 in Cinebench R23, overclocked to 5GHz across all 96 cores, but it used almost 950W to do so. This was with standard liquid cooling - so the result with liquid nitrogen should blow away its predecessor.

AMD's new Threadripper PRO flagship processor has had a mighty overclock applied which has seen the chip reach a towering Cinebench score, given that it's not using exotic cooling. However, what's even more eye-opening is the wattage consumed in doing so.

The Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX managed to attain a score of 186,800 in Cinebench R23, while reaching 5GHz across all 96 cores. SkyWalkerAMD pulled off this feat as VideoCardz noticed in the HWBOT rankings.

Given the number of cores involved here, and the fact that they were being driven to 5GHz across the board, the power pulled was massive: 947W to be precise.

If you're wondering what temperature the Threadripper CPU was at, it reached 98-degrees. The 9995WX had its heat levels kept in (relative) check by an all-in-one liquid cooler in this case.

When you consider that its predecessor, the 7995WX, required liquid nitrogen cooling to get a score of 210,000, that puts this achievement nicely in perspective. With plain liquid cooling, the 9995WX was only 12% off that score (and as you might guess, this is a record score for Cinebench without exotic cooling being used).

When liquid nitrogen is used in conjunction with the 9995WX, it'll surely set a new record and easily exceed 210,000.

For the curious, the rest of the PC spec here consisted of an ASUS Pro WS TRX50-Sage WiFi motherboard, along with 144GB of RAM.

The Threadripper PRO 9995WX isn't officially out yet, but is expected to be unleashed later this week - with an eye-watering price tag in the order of $13,000, or so the rumor mill reckons.
