Cyberpunk: Edgerunners returns with new 10-episode season from original Trigger animation team

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners stands as one of the best examples of transmedia success. CD Projekt's anime adaptation sparked widespread popularity and franchise awareness, which led to boosted Cyberpunk 2077 sales. Now the Polish games-maker wants to do it again with a second run.

Edgerunners 2 is currently in the works, CD Projekt has announced. Edgerunners 2 has been signed for a 10-episode run, and the storyline will be standalone--viewers won't need to watch the first Edgerunners to understand what's happening in the second chapter. Trigger, the Japanese animation studio that worked on the first anime, is reprising their role on the project.

Today's announcement also clears up some mystery around CD Projekt's new plans. In late May, CD Projekt management confirmed that there were three mystery projects in development, and one of them isn't game-related. We now know that Edgerunners 2 was this mysterious non-game project.

No release date has been set for Edgerunners 2, but it will premiere on Netflix. CD Projekt is also working on Cyberpunk 2, a sequel to its hit sci-fi game Cyberpunk 2077. It's unclear whether or not Edgerunners 2 will be timed to launch close to Cyberpunk 2.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077- a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?

Director Kai Ikarashi (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, SSSS.Gridman) brings a bold, cinematic vision to the series, supported by the lead character designer Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). They're joined by returning collaborators Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare) and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor as Showrunner, Story Writer, and Producer.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is created in collaboration with CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER and is now in production with a planned release on Netflix in the future.
