Electronic Arts is officially pulling the plug on Anthem in January 2026.

Anthem will go offline on January 12, 2026, BioWare has announced. The servers are shutting down, and the game can no longer be played after this period. "Anthem was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable," the studio explained in an FAQ.
BioWare has shut off microtransactions in Anthem and gamers can no longer buy in-game currency, but the premium currency can still be spent on content within the game until it's pulled offline.
EA's decision comes at a time when the publisher is trying to avoid portfolio risk. This is reflected in the company's recent actions: EA recently canceled a string of titles at Respawn, and only days ago, EA Sports teased a new college basketball game.
BioWare is currently working on the next big Mass Effect game for EA, however there's doubts about this project's current scope.
The studio also notes that no one at BioWare was laid off as a result of Anthem's sunsetting.
"We have an important update to share regarding Anthem. After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026. This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days.
"As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline.
"We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we'd like to thank you for that."
