EA is laying off between 300 to 400 workers and has cancelled numerous projects, sources tell Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.

As economic uncertainty looms in the United States, publisher Electronic Arts is executing another round of company-wide layoffs as part of its cost savings plan. Hundreds of people are to be affected by the layoffs, including 100 people at Respawn, the lucrative group responsible for billion-dollar service game Apex Legends.
Sources tell Bloomberg that Respawn has cancelled a new game set in the Titanfall universe as part of these layoffs. The game, codenamed R7, was said to be an extraction shooter that was in early stages of development and still needed much more time before it was ready for release.
"As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we've made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth," an EA rep told Bloomberg.
In an announcement post, Respawn says that it actually shut down two early projects. Details aren't known about the other game.
"As we sharpen our focus for the future, we've made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. These decisions aren't easy and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected--their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today."
Respawn will continue development of a new Star Wars Jedi game, and plans to "explore bold new experiences" for Apex Legends that "push the boundaries of competitive play."
Meanwhile, Electronic Arts recently showed off generative AI proof-of-concept technology that could change in-game parameters on-the-fly, including spawning random weapons, changing game modes, and altering environments.
EA is said to have over 100 active AI projects in development.
