Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was unveiled at the Xbox Showcase earlier this month, and now, publisher Activision has seemingly accidentally leaked two game modes coming to the unreleased title. One of which is a 20v20 game mode featuring wingsuits.
The Black Ops 7 official teaser trailer was released to a mixed reception, with the trailer gaining nearly 40 million views in just two weeks and featuring a not-so-good Like to Dislike ratio (134,000 thumbs up versus 82,000 thumbs down).
Now it seems Activision or Treyarch, or both is trying to get some goodwill back from unhappy gamers as CharlieIntel has reported that a message about an internal, developer-only Black Ops 7 play test set to begin this weekend was "accidentally" pushed "to everyone on Xbox on the Call of Duty app, instead." This message was intended for developers only, but it was inadvertently made public.
One could view this "accident" as a convenient way for Activision and Treyarch to gauge the community's response to the now-leaked Skirmish and 20v20 mode, set on a large map. Along with the message was a description for the 20v20 map, "Use your wingsuit to flank and reach objectives before your enemy. The first team to reach the score limit wins!"
It is certainly speculation to suggest that Activision/Treyarch intentionally released the message to the public to gauge a response about the content, and I should say I have no evidence to support that theory other than the timing of the poor response to the trailer, and the obvious intention from both the publisher and the developer to want to make their game as appealing as they possibly can to their fanbase.
However, I would like to think Activision and Treyarch are perhaps a bit more organized than to leak their own unreleased game to the public. However, perhaps my expectations are too high for them, and this can be boiled down to the fact that mistakes simply happen.
Either way, one thing is for sure. Both Activision and Treyarch are currently looking to see how the community responds to this new information.
