Outer Wilds Patch 16 was rolled out on Steam yesterday, introducing a variety of bug fixes and improvements. An otherwise run-of-the-mill update - the team included a brief explanation for why the update wouldn't be coming straight away to the Nintendo Switch:

Why stagger the releases like this? It's to increase the chance that, if any bad bugs on Steam slipped through testing, they'll get caught and fixed before the release of the other platforms. This is no shade to our QA testers, we're just trying to be extra risk-averse and conservative with the resources we put toward Outer Wilds since our new game is our priority!"

With that, we've got official confirmation that Mobius Digital is working on a new game.

The team at Mobius Digital has been quiet since the release of the Outer Wilds - Echoes of the Eye DLC in 2021. In late April, the team called for a new game designer to join the team in Los Angeles, vaguely noting: "Want to help us make our next weird and wonderful game?". However, until now, there's been no official confirmation that a project was in active development.

It's anyone's guess as to what the project might entail. Some speculate it will return to Outer Wilds' spacefaring setting, while others bet on a brand new concept and IP. Regardless of which route they take, we expect it'll take players on a wild ride.
