BREAKING: Rockstar Games officially confirms that GTA 6 has been delayed to May 2026.

GTA 6 will not release in 2025, Rockstar Games has announced. The highly anticipated sequel is now due out on May 26, 2026, the developer said on the Rockstar Newswire. This puts Grand Theft Auto 6 firmly in Take-Two's FY27 period, which runs from April 1, 2026 - March 31, 2027.
Take-Two Interactive shares dropped as much as 16% after the announcement.
Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.
This could be seen as a major blow to the games industry's 2025 ambitions, and the announcement comes shortly before Take-Two Interactive's next quarterly earnings call--this was a pre-emptive strategy to get ahead of GTA 6 before the earnings call.
News of a delay isn't exactly surprising; Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who has close knowledge with the goings-on of the industry, had originally thought GTA 6 would be delayed and that the game would not reach its intended 2025 launch due to current industry trends (and Rockstar's usual penchant for multiple delays).
