The new ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme motherboard features an E-ATX design, with a slick all-black theme with a few accents in silver. ASUS is using high-end power delivery with multiple VRMs in the form of a 20+2+2 phase (110A) power design, powered by dual 8-pin EPS power connectors.

We have 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots that support up to 256GB of memory, with up to DDR5-8200 speeds supported, as well as a ROG Q-DIMM.2 slot next to the memory DIMMs, which can support an AIC (add-in card) with dual M.2 SSD slots for additional SSD storage. The ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme motherboard features dual PCIe 5.0 x16 and M.2 slots with at least 5 slots (3 physical + 2 x Q-DIMM).

The first slot sports a huge heatsink and heat pipe solution, with an EZrelease design while the rest of the M.2 slots are found underneath the heatsink and cover plate that extends out to the PCH. ASUS includes a large ROG logo and Extreme label on the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme motherboard, while the highest M.2 slots (at the top of the board) use a 3D Vapor Chamber cooling design to keep those ultra-fast Gen5 SSDs nice and cool.

The flip side has some overclocking and tuner-specific options, with a DEBUG LED, FlexKey, Power On/Off button, and a bunch of right-angled connectors.

The front panel USB options include ultra-enthusiast 20G, 10G, and two 5G ethernet ports... ready for any networking you can throw at the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme motherboard. On the rear, we've got I/O connectivity that includes 7.1-channel HD audio, WiFi 7, a 10GbE and 5GbE ethernet port, 4 x USB Type-C ports (2 x 10G and 2 x 40G ports), a bunch of USB Type-A ports, HDMI output, as well as BIOS and Clear CMOS buttons.
