It's official: Game Informer has returned from the grave with new ownership at the helm.

After more than 30 years of print and digital games coverage, ailing retailer Gamestop unceremoniously shut down Game Informer, laid off all the staff, and effectively axed the entire branch. The website was pulled down and decades of coverage was offline.
Now Game Informer is back, and it's thanks to Gunzilla Games, a game studio who purchased GI and decided to rehire all the staff and spin the publication back up. Under Gunzilla, the Game Informer team will have 100% editorial freedom to tackle any and all topics and coverage they see fit, including digital and magazine prints.
The Game Informer site is back online, and you can see previous coverage as well as new articles that had been prepared for the relaunch, including game reviews on titles that released after GI was shut down.
"Game Informer now operates under an entity called Game Informer Inc., and our intent is to continue to focus on highlighting the coolest games, celebrating the history and legacy of the gaming industry, and shining a spotlight on the creators and players who are charting its future.
"I am deeply grateful for the trust and enthusiasm from the team at Gunzilla Games; they see the same potential in Game Informer as our team does, and their encouragement to do so ethically and free of outside pressure is laudable."
From the wording in the announcement, it seems GI will have more subscription options this time, including print/digital options and maybe extras with video coverage and the like.
"Our intent is to bring back the magazine bigger and better than it was before, and add a host of membership and subscription benefits, including an expanded scope to our videos, streaming, and feature coverage, while also broadening the range of experts and partnerships we tap to bring you those perspectives."
Pricing hasn't been revealed for Game Informer's planned coverage and you can subscribe for more info.
