In recent years, gaming keyboards have stripped back features and add-ons to focus on perfecting the basics, with minimal designs tailor-made for those firing up a competitive shooter like Counter-Strike 2 or the upcoming Battlefield 6 and settling in for the evening. This has seen most new gaming keyboards arrive in compact 65% or 75% TKL form factors, with hot-swappable switches, magnetic hall-effect switches to support features like Rapid Trigger, and a focus on a responsive linear response. Dedicated media controls are a nice-to-have but no longer an essential feature, as is the need for dedicated programmable macro buttons, an integrated display, or even a supportive wrist rest for comfort.
be quiet! doesn't do anything in half-measures, it's a brand that celebrates its commitment to precision engineering, with the name itself a testament to its various bread-and-butter components and products focusing on PC cooling solutions, cases, and power supplies. Silent performance is what you expect from the German engineers at be quiet!, and as one of the first gaming-focused keyboards from the company, the flagship be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard lives up to that promise. The combination of custom in-house Silent switches and three layers of sound-proofing and dampening foam leads to one of the smoothest and quietest typing experiences you're likely to find.
However, that's only the beginning of the story. The Dark Mount also features one of those head-turning designs that you simply can't look away from. To call it customizable feels disingenuous, the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard might just be one of the most customizable and modular keyboards we've encountered. The detachable Numpad and Media Dock support left and right side configurations, and the dedicated programmable buttons on the Numpad module each have a little display that can be configured to display, well, anything.
How about a specific application icon (such as Steam) to reflect its use? Not a problem. And when you couple this with a robust and stylish design that features vibrant RGB lighting with a lightbar that wraps around the entire keyboard, the Dark Mount is as stunning to look at as it is impressive to use.

Design & Software
Design
As a full-sized keyboard, all of the keys are present and accounted for on the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard. That said, the Dark Mount can still be used as a TKL keyboard, as the detachable Numpad can be placed on the left or right side of the keyboard or packed away. The Dark Mount connectors include little magnetic covers, so no matter where the Numpad is placed or not placed, you won't have a little visible port. It's worth highlighting this small detail as it's indicative of the care and attention that has gone into the design.

And in addition to the magnetic wrist rest for the main keyboard, the Numpad also features a dedicated (and smaller) magnetic wrist rest. And with the detachable Media Dock, which can also be placed on the top left or top right of the main keyboard module, the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard can switch between compact and, well, large, in a matter of seconds. In our time with the Dark Mount, we found the Numpad to be incredibly valuable, as this module is a lot more than a Numpad. The eight dedicated 140x140 customizable Display Keys add an element of Elgato Stream Deck functionality to the keyboard, making it fantastic for creators and productivity tasks.
The dedicated Media Dock is also impressive, as it not only offers the sorts of things we've come to expect from a premium keyboard, like a customizable volume dial and media playback controls, but it also includes a display and functionality that lets you quickly access things like lighting controls, profiles, and more. Plus, the display can be configured to display images, GIFs, and other fun stuff, adding to the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard's stylish look and feel. However, the modular nature of the Dark Mount's design does lead to some slight wobbles on both the Numpad and Media Dock, which is disappointing. It's only subtle and not enough to detract from the overall experience, but it is there.

Okay, so without a doubt, the Dark Mount is a looker. The all-black brushed aluminum low-profile top-plate paired with the default orange lighting, high-quality PBT double-shot keycaps, per-key north-facing RGB, and vibrant lightbar wrapping around the entire board is one of those designs that earns any awards it receives. The lighting is, of course, fully customizable, and the eight individual displays on the Numpad module's Display Keys support full color icons and images to match whatever functionality and look that suits your needs.
Which finally brings us to the typing experience, powered by the hot-swappable be quiet! Silent Switches. As expected, these are pre-lubricated, but with a design that includes PA66 nylon housing, a custom POM stem, and lubricated stabilizers under the Spacebar and Enter keys, you're looking at a keyboard that is meant to be seen and felt, but not heard. Add in three layers of dampening, including silicone and foam, and the smooth and responsive typefeel is backed up by a quiet sound that's akin to someone turning the volume down.
Software
From the hardware to the modular design to the look, feel, and lighting, the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard is one of the most impressive keyboards of 2025. Again, coming from a brand that we've come to expect quality, our primary concern heading into this review was the software side. After all, the Dark Mount is the company's first modular and customizable keyboard, and to unlock its full potential, it would absolutely need to have the app support to match. The good news is that be quiet!'s IO Center software is up to the task, and the better news is that the Dark Mount also supports web-based configuration.

Everything is split up into three sections covering lighting, key binding and remapping, and a dedicated configuration tool for the Media Dock. With a lightbar and vibrant per-key lighting, the app and web tool offer detailed and easy-to-use tools for putting together both complex and straightforward layered lighting. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the lightbar is broken up into several configurable lights, which speaks volumes, as the uniformity you get with the lighting is impressive. Clearly, be quiet!'s years of case and cooling expertise have paid off dividends here.

Key binding and remapping are also intuitive, covering both the keys and all of the custom Display Keys on the Numpad module and even the buttons on the Media Dock. With a visual representation of the Dark Mount, simply select the key you want to customize, and you'll be presented with context-sensitive options that are easy to follow. Display Key customization also includes choosing an image or icon from an extensive list of options, or uploading your own, and the ability to create a custom function.

Both the IO Center software and the web-based tool feature a similar layout and presentation, so no matter the rig the Dark Mount is connected to, you've always got access to customization. The Media Dock also gets a dedicated section, focused on the visual and presentation side, and it's fast and intuitive, just like the rest of the customization options.
Gaming Performance and Productivity
Gaming Performance
The be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard might have Gaming in the name, but it's a very different beast from a modern premium gaming keyboard. It's not wireless (not that we expected it to be with all of its features), and it sports more traditional linear mechanical switches modeled after the classic Cherry MX Red style. This means it doesn't feature adjustable magnetic switches that let you change actuation points on a per-key basis, nor does it support Rapid Trigger-like features that have become popular with competitive gamers. As modern and cutting-edge as the Dark Mount is, especially when it has a built-in Stream Deck of sorts, there's an old-school, almost traditional approach to the design.

For those wanting a more tactile response, that option is available, and although it's not the sort of keyboard you'd see being used during an esports event like IEM, it's more than capable. Playing shooters like DOOM: The Dark Ages, click-heavy action-RPGs like Diablo 4, and even the more slow and measured pace of strategy games like Frostpunk 2, the fantastic keycaps, mechanical switches, and sound-dampening all come together to deliver a great experience. The Dark Mount might not be a keyboard focused entirely on gaming performance and features, but that's okay. For those wanting a gaming keyboard and a modular full-sized board built for productivity and customization, it excels.
Productivity
It goes without saying that if you've read everything in this review so far, the be quiet! Dark Mount's productivity chops are next level. From the comfortable, silent, and smooth typing to the modular design that supports a variety of layouts, to having dedicated Display Keys that create an on-board Stream Deck-like experience, there aren't many mechanical keyboards like this on the market. This is the sort of keyboard that is not only quiet, smooth, and comfortable to use for hours, but it's one that will enhance your workflow and open the door to shortcuts and other things that would be difficult to move away from.
Keyboard Click Sound Level
To test a keyboard's overall sound level, we use the Ozito Digital Sound Level Meter, capturing the sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" multiple times and recording the maximum dB level. This indicates how "loud" the switches used are for everyday usage. The following chart showcases where the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard sits.

Final Thoughts
There are pricey mechanical keyboards out there, and the be quiet! Dark Mount Silent Gaming Keyboard is undoubtedly one of them. But this is one premium board where you can see where your money is going. The build quality is fantastic, as is the lighting, the keycaps, the switches, and the multiple layers of dampening. Often, you can tell when a keyboard maker is cutting corners when the Spacebar or Enter key has a slight wobble or rattle when you don't hit it dead on. This comes down to things like stabilizers, lubrication, mounting, and the positioning of the various components underneath the hood. Tapping the Spacebar on the left or rightmost edge is the same as hitting it dead center, so from a pure performance perspective, the Dark Mount is a winner.

However, it has to be said that the modular design, as great as it is, won't be for everyone. This is a gaming keyboard that also has content creators, writers, and professionals in its sights. And this isn't a bad thing because there aren't many, if any, keyboards like be quiet!'s Dark Mount out there. When a company branches out into a market or area it doesn't have a presence in, often the initial result ends up being the equivalent of a shoulder shrug. It's rarely terrible, and it's rarely exceptional. Thankfully, the Dark Mount is one of the better exceptions because it's more of the latter and worth looking into if you're looking for something that will be used for more than PC gaming.
