Western Digital bringing its fierce VelociRaptor hard drives, backplane and all, to a 3.5" drive bay near you, is the subject of this report from TechConnect Magazine.

WD VelociRaptor comes in reach of 3.5

Breaking speed limits at 10,000 RPM, the VelociRaptor utilises a SATA 3.0 GBps interface and boasts capacities of either 150 or 300 GB.

Backplane connectors, enabling the VelociRaptor to be used in multi-drive systems, are deemed as a great draw to enthusiasts and, as the company believes, will deliver the high-end solution that end-users, have been eagerly awaiting.

Married up with 16 MB cache, the 2.5" VelociRaptor HDD is housed in a 3.5" home, featuring an integrated cooling solution, bearing the chilling name, 'IcePack'. This allows for installation of the VelociRaptor into a 3.5" drive bay, bringing enterprise class results to enthusiasts everywhere.

Not shy of expressing its impressive 1.4 million hours MTBF rating, $229 and $319 for the 150 and 300 GB drives, respectively, are the expected price points.
