24 year-old MMORPG Final Fantasy XI now has unlimited trial play and a level 75 cap 1

Having just celebrated its 24th anniversary this year, Final Fantasy XI is one of the oldest active RPGs on the market today. Now Square Enix is prolonging the old-school MMORPG's life with an increased free trial campaign.

Gamers can now play Final Fantasy XI for free without a time limit (users only had 14 days before the new changes), and the level cap for free users has been increased from 50 to 75, giving lots more opportunities to continue playing. Older accounts that already used the free trial in the past can also jump back in for free via the new program.

The free trial version does have limitations, though, namely with job classes, social features and area access. The minimum price for 30-day subscription playtime in FFXI is $12.95 per month, which includes an $11.95 subscription plus a $1.00 character fee.

Square Enix explains the trial in its own words:

Final Fantasy XI's unlimited free trial has restrictions on job classes, social features, and area access. The specific jobs, features, and areas affected are not identified.

How can returning players restore access to an expired Final Fantasy XI free trial account?

How does the level 75 cap affect access to Final Fantasy XI’s older missions and endgame content?

The free-trial cap has risen from level 50 to 75, allowing players to challenge many activities added up to level 75. It does not specify which older missions or endgame activities are accessible, and the trial still restricts areas and job classes.
