TL;DR: Take-Two issued a cease-and-desist to Paralympics Productions, ending its unofficial native GTA V ports for Android and the original Nintendo Switch. A near-release performance update was canceled, and neither the builds nor source code will be published or transferred to another developer.

It has been a tough few weeks for ambitious unofficial game projects. We covered how developer Andy Nguyen was forced to abandon his PS5 Linux project after a critical Hypervisor exploit was reported to Sony, ending months of work in a matter of days. Now another project has met a similar fate, and this one was days away from a significant update when it ended.

Take-Two Interactive has issued a cease-and-desist to Paralympics Productions, the developer group behind the unofficial native GTA V port for Android. Project lead M0jso confirmed on X that the group will fully cease operations on October 3, 2026, thanking Take-Two for what he described as mercy, since the legal consequences could have been far worse.

M0jso's project was different from most community efforts to run GTA V on Android. The common approach involves running the PC version of the game through an emulation layer like Winlator, which translates x86 code on-the-fly and comes with performance costs.

Paralympics Productions was instead compiling the game to run natively on ARM hardware, promising higher frame rates, lower device temperatures, and proper native touchscreen controls rather than mapped inputs on top of a translation layer. The same developer had previously released an unofficial GTA V port for the original Nintendo Switch using the same approach, which is also being shut down.

The reason Take-Two had solid legal grounds, as M0jso himself acknowledged, is that the ports were reportedly built using GTA V source code that leaked online in 2023 rather than a reverse-engineered engine.

Neither the compiled builds nor the underlying source code will be released publicly. M0jso confirmed the code will not be handed off to another developer, as doing so after receiving the C&D would invite further legal action. A performance update that was reportedly only days from release has also been canceled.

From TweakTown's coverage of this story.

How did Paralympics Productions’ native ARM version of GTA V compare with running the PC version through Winlator?

Paralympics Productions was compiling GTA V to run natively on ARM hardware instead of running the PC version through Winlator's x86 translation layer. The project promised higher frame rates, lower device temperatures, and native touchscreen controls, but no measured side-by-side results were reported.

What frame rates and temperature results did the native GTA V Android port achieve on ARM hardware?

How did the Android port’s native touchscreen controls differ from Winlator’s mapped inputs?

Why did using GTA V source code leaked in 2023 create legal risks for Paralympics Productions?

For Android users hoping to run GTA V natively, those dreams may have hit an official dead end for now. But a potential GTA 6 mobile version could still be possible in the future if Rockstar really wants to pursue it.
